N001 Industrial Counterbalanced Lift Truck Novice

Course Objectives:

It is envisaged that at the end of this course the learner will be able to answer questions on and perform the following:

  • Have a basic understanding of the industry, the dangers of working in the industry & their responsibilities as a plant operator
  • Have a working knowledge of the manufacturers handbook for the particular machine to be used
  • Be able to locate & identify the major components of the machine & explain their functions
  • Conduct all pre-operational checks in accordance with manufactures & legislative requirements
  • Safely mount & dismount the machine
  • Start & stop the engine & safely move the machine off & stop it safely
  • Configure the machine for travel & manoeuvre it safely across varying terrain in open & confined areas
  • Conduct all necessary safety checks at the work area
  • Manoeuvre the machine to the work area & correctly configure it in readiness to carry out lifting & load handling tasks
  • Carry out lifting & load handling tasks
  • Lift & transfer loads accurately & safely at different locations
  • Load & unload external transport safely
  • Fit, adjust & / or remove attachments
  • Demonstrate knowledge & understanding of loading & unloading procedures for machine transportation
  • Carry out all end of shift & shut down procedures

On successful completion of the course, delegates will receive an NPORS card valid for 5 years, after which a refresher course can be undertaken.

N100 Excavator as a Crane Novice

Course Objectives:

It is envisaged that at the end of this course the learner will be able to answer questions on and perform the following:

  • Have a basic understanding of the industry, the dangers of working in the industry & their responsibilities as an operator
  • Be able to conform to manufacturers requirements as per technical data, conform to relevant regulations & legislation
  • Be able to locate & identify the major components of the machine & explain their functions
  • Be able to locate & identify steering, driving & braking controls & explain their functions
  • Safely mount & dismount the machine
  • Start & stop the engine & safely move the machine off & stop it safely
  • Configure the machine for travel & manoeuvre it safely across varying terrain in open & confined areas
  • Conduct all necessary safety checks at the work area
  • Be able to locate, identify & explain safe working loads, lifting capacity chart & explain different lifting configurations & working ranges
  • Identify & explain different lifting procedures, explain what task could fall into each category
  • Identify & explain centres of gravity, calculate estimated weights of loads
  • Identify any overhead / proximity hazards
  • Be able to agree the signal codes / hand signals, direction of movement, safe working & safe landing, placement zone with the slinger / signaller
  • Ensure excavator is in a safe condition for attachments to be fitted
  • Checked load integrity & security by carrying out trial lift
  • Be able to lift & move a load to a designated position in a safe & controlled manner ensuring minimum uncontrolled movement
  • Environmental considerations
  • Carry out all out of service & & securing procedures
