UK construction businesses now have excellent opportunities to significantly reduce their training costs and upskill their workforce through funding initiatives provided by CITB. These flexible funding schemes not only help ensure compliance with crucial industry standards but also empower businesses to invest effectively in employee development.
C&C Training are experts in accessing and managing these funding opportunities, helping to simplify the application process for you.
In this article, we outline the two primary CITB funding types—the Employer Network Fund and the CITB Levy/Grant—and explain how your business can benefit from each.

CITB is dedicated to helping the construction sector grow by aligning training standards and qualifications with industry needs. Through the CITB Levy, contributing employers can access funding for essential training via the Grant Scheme when booking through Approved Training Organisations (ATOs).
As an accredited ATO, C&C Training is proud to work closely with CITB. We actively engage in industry discussions, product development, and review committees, ensuring training meets evolving industry demands. Contact us today to learn more about how we can support your training needs.
Employers registered with CITB and current on their levy payments are eligible to apply for grants. This funding can be used to cover the cost of accredited, CITB-approved training courses that meet industry standards across various categories and specifications.
Employer Networks are an initiative set up and funded by CITB aiming to simplify the way you get the support and funding you need to access the training you want. Employers registered with CITB and up to date with their levy payments can join an Employer Network in their local area. These Networks simplify access to training and funding by letting employers collectively shape and prioritise which skills are most needed.
You do not have to submit separate paperwork for each claim: once you’re part of the Network, training support and funding are organised on your behalf.
With regional Networks now rolling out across Great Britain, you’ll find support whether your business is large or small, and you’ll have a say in how training budgets are spent locally.
The CITB Skills and Training Fund is available to all eligible CITB levy-paying organisations with 1-249 PAYE employees.
There are two categories:
Small and Micro-sized businesses (1-99 employees)
Medium-sized businesses (100-249 employees)
The amount you can apply for is based on your number of PAYE employees:
1-49 employees: £5k
50-74 employees: £7.5k
75-99 employees: £10k
100-149 employees: £15k
150-199 employees: £20k
You can apply at any time. The funds must be used within 18 months, and you can reapply every 6 months.
To apply, you must complete a funding application. We can provide the necessary forms and assist you throughout the process.
Employers with 1 to 49 directly employed staff can receive up to £5,000. Employers with 50 to 74 staff can receive up to £7,500, and employers with 75 to 99 staff can receive up to £10,000.
At the end of the funding year, you’ll need to complete a tracker to submit to CITB, detailing how the funds were spent. We will provide all the necessary information and assist with the process. Once completed, you can reapply for funding for the next year.
The CITB Employer Network Fund is an essential resource for construction businesses across the UK, providing access to significant funding for workforce training. This initiative covers 70% of your training costs, allowing you to enhance employee skills, maintain compliance with industry standards, and support your business growth.
As an approved ATO, you can be rest assured that your courses can be funded with us via the Employer Network funding stream.
This flexible funding scheme covers a wide range of training tailored to your business needs, including:
Health and Safety courses
IOSH training
National Vocational Qualifications (NVQs)
Role-specific short courses
Soft skills training such as First Aid and Mental Health First Aid
Importantly, these courses don't have to be grant-eligible, offering your business the freedom to choose training that directly meets your needs. Additionally, you don’t need to pre-plan your training extensively, as bookings can be made on an ad-hoc basis.
Accessing the Employer Network Fund won't affect your eligibility for other CITB grants, such as the Skills and Training Fund. This means you can maximize your funding potential and significantly reduce your overall training expenditure, ensuring a skilled and compliant workforce without stretching your budget.
