Course Objectives

In this course, learners will acquire the knowledge and skills required to install electrical circuits typical in domestic environments, including socket circuits, lighting circuits, and circuits for showers, cookers, and fans. They will also learn to work safely, ensuring that installations are properly isolated. The course will cover the use of 70-degree thermoplastic flat cables (twin and earth) and include wiring circuits from consumer units, along with conducting basic tests to verify the safety of the installations before they are energised.

Entry Requirements

New entrants

This course serves as an ideal introduction to the electrical industry, tailored for those seeking practical experience in installing electrical circuits and accessories. Upon completion, learners may opt to join an electrical team as a labourer or pursue further training to become a qualified electrician.

Allied trades

Allied tradespeople might find this training beneficial for ensuring the safe isolation and connection of electrical equipment, including cookers, hobs, and boilers, and other electrical equipment to existing systems, as well as for replacing basic fixtures and fittings like sockets, light fittings and switches.

Duration

This course is delivered over 5 days in the training centres. 

Course Features

During this course you will cover the following:

  • Safe isolation
  • Installation of power and lighting circuits
  • Alterations and additions to existing  circuits including: Socket circuits (adding extra, and replacing sockets and fuse spurs)
  • Lighting circuits (adding extra lighting points, replacing lights and switches)
  • Cooker circuits (adding a low-level outlet and replacing accessories)
  • Basic inspection and testing practices and procedures.
